City College shuts out Poly 20-0 to end rivalry loss

Baltimore City College football players shut out Baltimore Polytechnic Institute 20-0 on Saturday. The victory marked the end of the rivalry’s most recent losing streak for the Knights. The game was the latest chapter in a 137-year tradition between the two Baltimore high schools.

Head Coach Joyner, a City College alumnus, joined the Quicksilva Morning Show on 92Q on Monday. He spoke with team members about reclaiming bragging rights after the previous year’s defeat. Joyner said he felt pride in the players, specifically noting the importance of the win for the graduating seniors.

While acknowledging that the team made mistakes during the contest, Joyner praised the group for their preparation and execution. Defensive back Ethan Gorlison, a member of the Class of 2027, agreed with the assessment. He credited the team’s commitment to executing the game plan on the field.

Ashton Owens added that the Knights focused on proving themselves rather than reacting to social media criticism. Senior varsity manager Sydney Collins highlighted the dedication of the squad. She pointed to the work put in during summer practices and throughout the school year.

The radio appearance allowed the players to share their excitement with local listeners. The team used the platform to celebrate the shutout and the competitive spirit of the matchup. The interview concluded the immediate post-game coverage of the event.
