Demarcus Henry selected North Carolina on Friday, ending his recruitment with commitments from Louisville, Arkansas, and Kentucky. The five-star forward is the first player to pledge to the Tar Heels for the upcoming class. His selection marks a major recruiting victory for Michael Malone, who took over as North Carolina's head coach this season.
Rated the No. 4 overall player and the top small forward in the 2027 cycle by 247Sports, Henry comes from Chandler, Arizona, where he attended Compass Prep. He visited UConn and the three schools he rejected before taking an official trip to North Carolina last weekend. The choice places him on a roster that has not yet secured commitments from the top three ranked players in his class.
Henry is the son of Chris Henry, an NFL wide receiver who passed away in 2009. His older brother, Chris Henry Jr., played as a freshman wide receiver for Ohio State in 2025 and was a five-star prospect in the previous recruiting cycle.
Adam Finkelstein, the director of scouting at 247Sports, identified Henry's defensive potential as a key attribute. Finkelstein noted that Henry's size, length, and movement skills make him highly switchable. He also recorded strong playmaking numbers in the EYBL, averaging over three statistics per game with 1.8 steals and 1.3 blocks.
Henry's rebounding ability stands out on the wing. In EYBL competition, he averaged 9.2 rebounds per game, including 2.9 offensive boards. In EYBL Scholastic play, his average was 8.4 rebounds. The No. 4 ranked player joins a busy week of commitments for blue-chip athletes, though top prospects Beckham Black, CJ Rosser, and Cayden Daughtry have not yet announced their decisions.
