Brisbane police are widening their investigation into a drive-by shooting that killed a 19-year-old woman, examining whether local gangs played a role in the attack. The inquiry is currently active, with roughly 80 officers assigned to the case.

Vana-Reese Schuster-Togiatau was shot in the head and neck on Saturday night outside Fitzy's Loganholme. She was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital but passed away on Thursday morning. Three other men, aged 27, 37, and 38, were hospitalized after being struck by gunfire. One man required surgery, while the other two have been released.

The incident occurred during a boxing event at the venue. Det Insp Ian Galpin, who led the media briefing, described the victim as being in the prime of her life. He stated she was simply going out with friends before her life was taken in a cowardly way. Galpin appeared emotional while delivering the news to the public.

Police have not yet identified the suspects responsible for the shooting. Galpin urged community members with knowledge of the event to come forward. He noted that some individuals know exactly who was involved and the motive behind the violence.

Regarding the possible connection to organized crime, Galpin said investigators are keeping an open mind. If the probe identifies gang members or associates, the scope of the investigation will expand accordingly. The victim's family has asked for privacy during this difficult time.

The family is reportedly struggling with the loss. Police are continuing their search for the masked gunmen who fired into the crowd. No arrests have been made as of Thursday.
