Miro Heiskanen's pass to Roope Hintz decided the game at American Airlines Center on Thursday. Hintz scored on a breakaway with 3:47 remaining in overtime to give the Dallas Stars a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets.
The winning sequence began when Jason Robertson blocked a shot from Winnipeg. Heiskanen immediately moved the puck forward to Hintz, who finished the rush alone. This transition turned a defensive stop into a scoring chance in a matter of seconds.
The Stars relied heavily on their top two defensemen for the majority of the game. With Esa Lindell out of the lineup, Heiskanen played 29 minutes and 20 seconds. Thomas Harley logged 28 minutes and 27 seconds. The next most-used defenseman, Lian Bichsel, played 17 minutes and 47 seconds.
Winnipeg took the lead in the second period. Connor Johnston scored early in the frame, and Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor added goals to put the Jets ahead. Dallas trailed until Hintz scored a power-play goal with two minutes left in regulation to tie the score at 2-2.
The Stars outshot Winnipeg 38-19, but the team had to work for its goals. Connor Skinner stopped 35 shots for Winnipeg to keep the game close. Despite the high shot volume, Dallas could not break through the Jets' goaltender until late in the third period.
Heiskanen finished the night with five shots on goal, one block, and the winning assist. Harley recorded no goals. The final score reflects the difficulty of scoring against a well-rested goalie despite a strong offensive effort from Dallas.
The Stars did not announce a return date for Lindell or a permanent change to the defensive rotation. The current lineup remains in place as the team prepares for its next game.
