Every October, public health campaigns in the United States focus on detecting and preventing breast cancer. On Friday, Vanessa Trump joined that conversation with personal news about her own health.
Trump, 48, confirmed she is now cancer-free. She shared the update in a short video posted to the Instagram account of her 19-year-old daughter, Kai. In the clip, Trump stated that her recent test results came back clear. She described herself as finally cancer-free after a diagnosis earlier this year.
She first received the diagnosis in April. Trump made the condition public in May, noting in a social media post that she had undergone surgery. She said she was working with her medical team to develop a treatment plan at that time.
Kai Trump posted the video as a preview for a longer YouTube release scheduled for Saturday. The full video will feature her, her mother, and Dr. Nicole Saphier. They plan to discuss breast cancer awareness, prevention, and early detection.
Kai noted in the caption that the timing coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month. She described the month as a period for education and support for those affected by the disease. The post quickly drew over 20,000 likes and hundreds of comments from supporters, including singer and media personality Mary Millben.
Trump separated from Donald Trump Jr in 2018. The two have five children together. Last year, Trump announced she had begun a relationship with professional golfer Tiger Woods.
The American Cancer Society reports that the average risk of a woman in the US developing breast cancer is about 13%. The disease accounts for 30% of all new female cancers annually. Surgery cures most cases of breast cancer. When residual disease remains, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and endocrine therapy can lower the long-term risk of recurrence.
