The Milwaukee Brewers are one win from their first championship after beating the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 in Game 3 of the World Series on Monday night, taking a 3-0 series lead. Jackson Chourio, a 22-year-old from Venezuela, collected four of Milwaukee's 16 hits in the rout at St. Petersburg, Florida.

The performance made Chourio the first 22-year-old to record four hits in a World Series game in 80 years. He now has eight hits through three games of the Fall Classic. Milwaukee built its lead by scoring eight runs with two outs in the fifth inning.

Chourio's production has climbed as the stakes have risen. His regular-season OPS from 2024 through 2026 was .799, and his career playoff mark sits at .882. League-wide figures show the opposite pattern: across the sport, OPS has run 39 points higher in the regular season than in the postseason over the past three years. During that stretch Chourio became the first player with three consecutive seasons of 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases before turning 23.

Milwaukee signed Chourio out of Venezuela in 2021 when he was 16. Matt Arnold, the club's president of baseball operations, was general manager under David Stearns at the time. Arnold said Monday that Chourio "is turning into a superstar right in front of our eyes." Hitting coach Daniel Vogelbach called him "a kid" and noted, "He could be playing college baseball right now."

Chourio spoke in Spanish after Game 3, saying he works to keep his composure. "It's about maintaining a calmness to myself and thinking only about a positive result," he said. "I know people expect a lot out of me. I expect a lot out of myself too. But I have to remain calm and always think positive." Captain Christian Yelich described him as having "that slow heartbeat" and added, "He likes the moment."

Néstor Corredor, Milwaukee's field coordinator who coached Chourio in Venezuela and in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, said he watched Chourio grow anxious during a rematch against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Corredor has since seen him shorten his swing and work counts against the Rays. "He's understanding that this is a complete team and he doesn't have to be the hero," Corredor said.

Game 4 is scheduled next in St. Petersburg. The Rays entered Monday needing to halt Milwaukee's run, which has included a rally from a four-run deficit in Game 2. The Brewers have not won a World Series in the franchise's 57-year history.

Chourio said he has read parts of Kobe Bryant's autobiography, "The Mamba Mentality." His middle name, Bryan, honors the late Lakers guard. "I know how hard I've worked for this," he said. "But the fact it's all working out the best way possible is truly gratifying."
