Heidi Klum returned to her New York Halloween party in a giant prosthetic hand.
The event marked the 25th year of the annual gathering. Klum said the concept for the costume began forming last year. She decided to portray her own left hand. The design featured long red nails, a thumb ring, and her engagement and wedding bands.
Klum described the process of creating the look. She said the team spent a long time making the prop. The application process took approximately five to six hours that day. She posted updates on Instagram as bloodied prosthetics were attached to her face. Her eyes and mouth were the only visible parts of her face. Blood dripped from her mouth as she stuck her tongue out.
The top of the hand costume displayed dangling ligaments and tendons. A group of assistants wore blood-stained hazmat suits to help Klum. She noted that the weight of the prop made it difficult to move. She stated that carrying the hand was the hardest part of the performance.
Klum has a history of elaborate costumes for this event. In 2022, she arrived on a fishing line inside a worm costume. Previous years saw her dressed as Medusa, a peacock, an 8-foot Transformer, a werewolf, a clone, and the Hindu goddess Kali. Her husband, musician Tom Kaulitz, did not attend this year because he was on tour. However, his name was tattooed on the ring finger of the prosthetic hand.
Klum said a part of her husband was with her through the detail on the costume. The hand also included her palm lines and veins. She explained the inspiration for the size of the prop. She said she looked at her hand and thought she could fit her body inside it.
