Londoners have been placed on alert as law enforcement intensifies efforts to locate a man who recently departed a secure medical site in the city's south east. The Metropolitan Police initiated a formal search operation on Saturday for Anthony Lloyd, a prisoner who they state presents a danger to both his own safety and the general public.

The escape occurred shortly after 4 pm on Friday when Lloyd forced his way out of a health unit in Lewisham. According to police reports, witnesses last saw him moving in the direction of Catford at approximately 4:10 pm on the same day. The force has advised residents to maintain a safe distance if they encounter him and to contact emergency services immediately rather than attempting to engage with him directly.

Lloyd is 38 years old and is described as a white man with a medium build and short dark hair. He stands approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall. At the time of his escape, he was dressed in a grey blue t shirt, black tracksuit bottoms, and white trainers. These details have been distributed to aid in his identification across the metropolitan area.

The man was originally sentenced in 2025 for actual bodily harm, a conviction stemming from an incident in Nottinghamshire that involved three emergency services workers. He received a 12 month custodial sentence and was subsequently transferred to the Lewisham medical facility in September. His prior criminal history and current status as a non compliant detainee have heightened the urgency of the investigation.

Detective Superintendent Melanie Pressley, who is leading the search operation, explained that officers are conducting significant inquiries to locate Lloyd and return him to custody. She emphasized the concern that he poses a risk to himself and others, urging anyone who spots him to call 999 without delay. She specifically instructed the public not to approach him, a directive intended to minimize potential conflict during the apprehension process.

In her public appeal, Pressley requested assistance from anyone with relevant details, no matter how minor. She asked that information be provided to police as a matter of urgency to help narrow down the search area. The broad nature of the appeal reflects the difficulty in pinpointing the escapee's exact location within the dense urban landscape of the capital.

Police believe Lloyd could be located anywhere in London, but they have also identified links to several other regions. These areas include Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley, Hampshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and Merseyside. The inclusion of these locations suggests that investigators are monitoring travel patterns and potential hideouts outside the immediate metropolitan area.

The search continues as of Saturday, with the reference CAD4739/23Oct provided for those who wish to report information. As the manhunt persists, the focus remains on securing Lloyd's safe return to custody while ensuring the safety of the public in the affected areas.
