Pratt Library opens vaults for Halloween horror display

The Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore will open its Special Collections Reading Room for a free event called Rare Books Open House: Horror and Ghosts. The gathering takes place at the library’s annex, located at 400 Cathedral Street in the 21201 zip code.

Visitors will examine a curated selection of rare volumes focused on occultism, witchcraft, and ghost folklore. The display includes historical texts that are typically difficult for the general public to access. The event is designed for researchers, gothic literature fans, and local history enthusiasts.

The library will also showcase items from its Edgar Allan Poe Collection. This specific selection pays tribute to the author and his connection to the city. The collection contains manuscripts and objects that highlight his legacy as a master of the macabre.

The Special Collections Department of the Enoch Pratt Free Library is organizing the event. Admission is free, and the doors are open to the entire community. The timing coincides with the Halloween holiday season.

The event serves as a direct link between the library's archival holdings and the public. It allows attendees to see primary source materials related to the supernatural. The library hosts this type of exhibition to provide hands-on access to its holdings.

Those interested can find more details on the official Pratt Library event calendar. The library is located in the heart of downtown Baltimore. The event is part of the library's regular programming for the fall season.
