The New York State Department of Health issued a report on November 3 stating that excavation work at Flint Park in Larchmont is unlikely to increase health risks for local residents.

The evaluation was conducted by the NYSDOH Bureau of Environmental Exposure Investigation alongside the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Westchester County Department of Health. The team reviewed the site where digging occurred between May and August 2026.

Analysts found that certain soil contaminants exceeded regulatory standards. However, the agencies concluded that the duration of the work was too short to cause harm.

The department explained that existing safety standards apply to continuous, long-term exposure. Officials determined that the temporary nature of the excavation did not meet the threshold for that level of risk.

As a precaution, regulators advised restricting access to the active excavation zone. They also required measures to control dust and manage water runoff from the site.

Village of Larchmont officials confirmed they are following these directives. The village stated it is working with state authorities to address potential environmental issues and will provide further updates as new information emerges.
