Ukrainian and Dutch defence industries have started joint work on a new air defence project called Bliksem.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the start of this collaboration after meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten. The two leaders also met with executives from companies in the defence, energy, and software sectors.
Zelenskyy stated that specific teams from both countries were tasked with developing the Bliksem system. He noted that the work has already begun, marking a step toward deeper industrial and technological cooperation. The project is designed to produce concrete industrial and social results for both nations.
The Ukrainian president did not provide technical specifications for the Bliksem project. However, he outlined the broader strategic goals identified during the meeting. These priorities include defence production, joint technology initiatives, energy projects, and industrial development.
Satellite technologies and air defence were singled out as key areas for practical economic cooperation. On the same day, Prime Minister Jetten announced that the Netherlands will allocate €500 million for military aid to Ukraine. This funding is specifically earmarked to strengthen air defence capabilities.
In addition to military support, the Dutch government is committing €1.2 billion in non-military aid over the next three years. This assistance will support recovery and reconstruction efforts while creating new opportunities for Dutch businesses. The Netherlands will also contribute €10 million to the Industrial Ramstein initiative for Ukraine.
