A humanitarian operation in the occupied town of Oleshky will begin on 29 October, according to Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights. The date follows a ceasefire agreement that takes effect on the night of 27 October.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a video address that conditions in the town remain extremely difficult. He described the situation as dire and noted that Russian forces have mined roads in the temporarily occupied part of Kherson Oblast. Kyiv aims to restore access to the area, deliver essential supplies, and permit residents to leave the combat zone.

Zelenskyy attributed progress to ongoing talks at various levels. He stated that Ukraine will fulfill its obligations and expressed confidence that American mediation would succeed. The White House confirmed that US First Lady Melania Trump secured the truce. The administration described a humanitarian disaster as currently unfolding in the region.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Russia agreed to the ceasefire to facilitate the mission. The general staffs of both nations announced on Friday evening that a designated area would observe the pause in fighting. This arrangement is specifically intended to allow the humanitarian operation to proceed safely.

The town of Oleshky sits within Kherson Oblast, which remains under Russian occupation. The planned operation seeks to break the siege by clearing mined routes and providing a corridor for aid and evacuation. The 48-hour window between the start of the ceasefire and the operation launch is designed to ensure stability before personnel enter the zone.
