Arsenal and Manchester City now share the top of the Premier League table with 21 points apiece after eight matchdays. Arsenal achieved this parity by defeating Everton 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, a result that arrived concurrently with Manchester City's first league defeat of the season.

The three-point gap that separated the two leaders vanished following Aston Villa's 2-1 win over Manchester City at Villa Park. Nicolas Jackson scored two goals for Villa, extending their unbeaten run against City to three consecutive league matches. This result moved Villa into sixth place with 11 points, marking their first home league victory of the campaign.

Arsenal opened the scoring in the seventh minute at the Emirates. Martin Odegaard delivered a corner that Jordan Pickford initially blocked, but Ezri Konsa finished the rebound from close range. This goal ended a 13-game drought for set-piece goals for Arsenal, a statistical dry spell that stretched back to May.

The second goal came in the 68th minute during a period of heavy rain. Ben White, playing his 200th career match for Arsenal, crossed to the far post where Gabriel headed the ball into the net on his 200th Premier League appearance. Everton currently sits in ninth place following the loss.

Manchester City faces an ongoing financial dispute that clouds their title bid. An independent commission found the club committed 114 breaches of Premier League financial rules, a finding the club has denied while awaiting an appeal outcome. Erling Haaland scored for City in the Villa match, but it was not enough to prevent the loss.

In other Saturday fixtures, Tottenham Hotspur defeated Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge. This was Tottenham's second league victory at that venue in 36 years. Cole Palmer was sent off in the 80th minute, and Mathys Tel scored the final goal in the 87th minute to secure the win for the visitors.

Fulham secured a 1-0 victory over Coventry City at the Craven Cottage. Oscar Bobb scored in the 80th minute to give Fulham their second league win of the season, moving them to 13th place, while Coventry remains 19th.
