Home movie watchers now have five new projector options that project images up to 100 inches wide. These devices replace large televisions with lighter, more flexible setups. Some models cost less than premium 4K televisions, while others include built-in batteries for outdoor use. The new hardware targets both dedicated home theaters and casual backyard screenings.

The top pick for large rooms is the Epson Home Cinema LS11000. This 4K laser projector prioritizes sharpness and contrast over portability. It lacks Dolby Vision support and a 3D option. The unit is bulky and designed to stay in a darkened space. It features a motorized zoom and lens shift for flexible placement in a fixed installation.

For smaller spaces or gaming, the BenQ TK710 offers a 4K laser display. It handles ambient light better than most competitors in its price range. The projector supports 1080p at 240Hz with low input lag. However, color accuracy lags behind more expensive models, and its built-in speaker provides underwhelming audio.

The Hisense C2 Ultra targets users who want a complete system in one box. It includes a 2.1-channel sound system and built-in streaming apps. The device supports Dolby Vision and HDR. A required bulky stand takes up significant floor space. The unit does not support 4K gaming at 120Hz, which limits its appeal for high-refresh-rate gamers.

Portability is the focus of the Samsung The Freestyle 2nd Gen. This 1080p model features a rotating stand and automatic focus. It includes 360-degree audio and built-in streaming. The device is lightweight and easy to move. It lacks a built-in battery and has limited brightness for daytime viewing.

The Nebula Mars 3 Air is designed for outdoor use. It includes a rechargeable battery and above-average built-in speakers. The 1080p picture quality is best after sunset. Automatic image adjustments reduce setup time. The device does not support USB-C charging, and battery life varies depending on brightness settings.

Buyers must consider throw distance and room size before purchasing. Short-throw models are essential for apartments where space is limited. Brightness requirements differ by room type. Darkened rooms function well with 1,000 lumens. Brighter spaces generally require 2,000 to 3,000 lumens or more. A dedicated screen improves contrast, but a smooth, light-colored wall works for casual viewing.
