Joe Burrow threw for 462 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for a score to guide the Cincinnati Bengals to a 43-36 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The result stands as the 1,098th unique final score in the 107-year history of the National Football League.
Three key facts define this outcome. First, Burrow became the second player in league history to record at least 450 passing yards, five touchdown passes, and one rushing touchdown in a single game. Second, the 43-36 scoreline had never occurred before, adding a new entry to the league's official list of unique final scores. Third, this marks the first time the Bengals have been part of a unique score since 2022, when they defeated the New England Patriots 22-18.
The path to this historical score was erratic. The Titans led 36-29 with under four minutes remaining in regulation. Burrow responded by driving the Bengals down an 81-yard field. He connected with Tee Higgins on an 18-yard pass to tie the game with 1:17 left on the clock. In overtime, Burrow went 4-of-4 for 51 yards before finishing the drive with a nine-yard rushing touchdown to secure the win.
The offensive surge relied on Cincinnati's two primary wide receivers. Both Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase recorded over 140 receiving yards in the matchup. Despite the high volume of passing yards, Burrow threw three interceptions during the contest.
The unusual scoreline originated in the third quarter. The game was tied at 21 when the Bengals picked up a safety to take a 23-21 lead. The Titans answered with a touchdown to reach 28-23. The Bengals then scored to retake the lead at 29-28. On that drive, Cincinnati attempted a two-point conversion but failed to convert. This sequence set the stage for the final scoring combination that had never appeared in NFL play.
This result represents the third unique final score of the 2026 season. The previous unique score of the year occurred nearly two months ago. Last season featured only four such occurrences. As the pool of possible scores shrinks, new entries become less frequent. The last time the Titans were involved in a unique score was in 2020, when they defeated the Detroit Lions 45-26.
