Lamar Jackson will miss at least four games as the Baltimore Ravens prepare for thumb surgery. The two-time NFL MVP was placed on injured reserve following Sunday's 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Head coach Jesse Minter confirmed the update after the game, which also saw the team lose multiple quarterbacks to injuries.
Jackson injured his right thumb on the first offensive play of the game. Bills linebacker Greg Rousseau struck Jackson's throwing hand while trying to deflect a pass. The quarterback examined his hand immediately and walked to the sideline for medical attention. He later returned to the field in the third quarter wearing a brace.
This injury ended Jackson's comeback from a high ankle sprain that kept him out of the previous three games. His absence leaves the Ravens without their starter for an extended period. The team now faces a steep challenge to find stability at the quarterback position while the season continues.
Baltimore's quarterback depth chart took a further hit in the second quarter. Backup Tyler Huntley suffered a right toe injury and was ruled out in the third quarter. He completed two of four passes for zero yards before leaving the game. The injury forced the Ravens to turn to their third-string option.
Undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano made his regular-season debut against Buffalo. The UConn product completed 10 of 21 passes for 91 yards. He also threw one interception during his time on the field. The young signal caller steps into a critical role as the Ravens look to recover from their recent setback.
